CoReVe: Annual report on glass collection and recycling
The latest annual report on glass collection and recycling carried out by CoReVe shows that Italians have become more environmentally aware over the past five years.
In 2020, in fact, Italy collected, recovered and recycled 3.6% more glass packaging waste than ever before. Another significant figure is the growth in the consumption of glass jars and bottles, which increased by 1.8% compared to 2019. Even more encouraging is the recycling rate of glass packaging, which reached 78.6% in Italy, placing Italian citizens among the most virtuous in Europe.
These excellent results were also achieved thanks to the improved efficiency of the treatment plants, which are now able to reduce final waste from 11.4% to 10.6%. However, it is of the utmost importance to continue to raise awareness among citizens to carry out quality recycling by avoiding to put plastic bags, ceramic, Pyrex and crystal objects in the recycling bins.
